A HEALING JOURNEY THROUGH LENT
Led by Dr. David Reed
Saturday, February 13, 2016 – 9:00am-12 noon
The days between Ash Wednesday and Easter tell the ‘Greatest Story Ever Told.’ It’s the Story of a God who created the world out of love, Who looked at that world and said, ‘it’s good!’ It’s the story of disobedience, broken relationships and disorder, of rebellion and death.
There’s Good News. It’s the Story of a God whose love never gives up—the story of a God who heals our sin and sorrow. Lent is the Story of an incarnate God—God made flesh—who came among us, died for us, and was raised from death to bring healing to the whole world—to us, to the nations and to the whole creation.
To prepare for our Lenten journey, we will follow the healing ministry of Jesus and the Apostolic Church, signs that the reign of God has begun. We will share today’s healing stories to remind us that this kingdom of God is still unfolding before our eyes.
In Easter we will rejoice that the Great Reversal which began in a manger and on a cross will be brought to its completion in that new heaven and earth where God ‘will wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more.’
Cost: $15.00 for the morning; please email Katharine to sign up.
Ash Wednesday marks the start of observation of Lent, the most solemn time of the Christian Year.
Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence: from the Middle Ages it became the custom to begin Lent by marking Christians with the sign of the cross in ash on their foreheads.
Lent is traditionally marked by self-examination, fasting and preparation for Easter. It is a time when Christians reflect on the biblical account of Jesus in the wilderness (Luke 4:1-13).
Ash Wednesday services will be at 9:30am and 7:30pm. A special Ash Wednesday service for families with children and/or teens is held at 6:30pm. The imposition of ashes and the Eucharist will be part of all three services.
