A special note from Rev. Stephen Kern –
“Come, let us sing to the Lord; let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation.” Psalm 95.1
On behalf of the Search Committee for our new Minister of Music & Choir Director I am pleased to announce that Mr. Kevin Parks has accepted our offer and started with us on December 1! Kevin comes to us with over 40 years’ experience as a church music leader across Canada, especially the Maritimes. Over the next few weeks you will learn more about our newest staff member.
Finally, our sincere thanks to the Music Search Committee, chaired by deputy warden Andrew Estabrooks, for their dedication to the task.
“‘Well done, good and faithful servants…’” Matthew 25:21
A special request from Kevin Parks –
Do you like to sing? Would you make a one-time commitment to help us have choir music for Christmas Eve?
Join me for some spirit-filled music making after church from 11:45-12:30 pm on Sunday December 14 and 21. We’ll learn ONE special piece of music together to present at our 7:30 pm Christmas Eve Service.
You don’t need to have sung in the choir before to participate. And this is NOT a commitment to be in the choir in the future. This invitation is only to participate in a choir on Christmas Eve. All ages are welcome, including school age children, teens, adults and seniors. All voice types are welcome. No special experience or ability is required. All you need to bring is your interest and enthusiasm for singing and making community through worshipful song!
I hope to meet you on December 14!
Kevin Parks
Minister of Music
Who we are….
Our congregation enjoys good music and singing together in praise and worship. Classical hymns take pride of place in our worship, as well as gospel hymns and some contemporary spiritual songs. We have a wonderful Phoenix organ (installed 2010) and beautiful Heitzman grand piano which are both used each service. Occasionally other instruments accompany our praise, guitar, flute, trumpet and even the sax! Our small choir is faithful and sings on alternate Sundays, with a rota of cantors leading the singing the other Sundays. We are slowly integrating more contemporary music in our services. Come join us make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
In memory of past Minister of Music Nina Wu-Cotton who passed suddenly in August of 2023, please enjoy this recording of her playing Widor’s Finale at St. Philip’s.
