Loving God, serving neighbours.
Seems pretty simple.
There are lots of ways to help others. Here are some of the ways you can be involved in serving with St. Philip’s on the Hill:
Refugee Family Sponsorship – in partnership with Grace Church, Markham we sponsored a Syrian refugee family to come to Markham.
Walkathon– In May St. Philip’s walks to raise money for various projects. We have supported water project in the northern Ontario native community Pikangikum and Camp Grundy, an Indigenous camp for First Nations children.
Food and clothes for a local school breakfast club through an annual Cereal & Winter Clothes Drive.
Markham Food Bank – we regularly collect and donate food to support our community
Markham Inter-Church Committee for Affordable Housing (MICAH) – we have parishioners that serve on the board to assist low-income families find adequate housing in Markham.
Christmas Care-N-Share provides presents for local families and seniors in need- a joint project with St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church and area churches
Supporting Seniors on their spiritual journey by bringing worship, sacraments and prayer to their local residences.
Healing Blankets encourage the sick, lovingly knit by members to remind of God’s healing power and love
Prayer for those in need is a powerful ministry that makes a difference in people’s lives. If you have a request you’d like us to pray about, please let us know:
Prayer is carried out by a very active group of people in the parish. It is a privilege to be asked to pray for others and in so doing, the Lord blesses many, and teaches and matures us. This past year we have had several people on our prayer list for many months and we have seen the Lord move in their lives in various and exciting ways. The pattern of the Prayer Group is to pray for a period of two weeks and review what has happened.
The people of St. Philip’s also regularly participate in four Ember Days, special days of prayer that occur with the change of church seasons.
